id’s Rage Coming to iPhone at 60FPS

One of the biggest news to hit the iPhone 4 gaming scene since the smartphone’s release, legendary Dallas-based game developer id Software (creators of the Wolfenstein series, the Doom series, and the Quake series all for PC) have made a major announcement in bringing their latest PC/next-generation videogame console release ‘Rage’ to the iPhone 4 and iPad platforms. Due out in September 2011 for the PC/consoles, Rage is not even close to release date for the big machines, yet id is committed to condensing the first half of the game, and released it as an iPhone 4 App later this year (most likely holiday season 2010) almost a year before the game even sees the light of day on the PC or console!

This is a very unprecedented move to support the future of iPhone 4 gaming, and the fact that the Rage App for iPhone 4 is expected to be in line with the pricing of other popular, inexpensive games on the App Store is the icing on the cake in this huge update. John Carmack, lead designer of Rage at id, is 100% behind this move towards mobile gaming and picked the iPhone over the Android market primarily due to the lack of competition from the latter.

You know iPhone is powerful, however do you know that it will handle a few of id’s graphics intensive games as well? John Carmack, man who brought the Doom to hearts & to computers, demonstrated a Rage on iPhone at his keynote speech in QuakeCon 2010. Fame was running at normal 60frames every second, and better than abilities of Xbox or else Playstation 2. Carmack’s demonstration shows what iPhone hardware is capable of, and especially that processors are now getting beefier with every iteration.
