Canadian iPhone 4 Users Enjoy Unlocked Freedom

If you are interested in owning the iPhone 4, and you live in Canada, chances are a lot of United States iPhone 4 owners are very envious of you right now! The reason for the envy is the much-publicized fact that Canadian iPhone 4s will not be locked into a secure handset agreement with AT&T, and only AT&T as it is in the U.S., Canada’s iPhone 4s will have the option of choosing between several different carriers and will not be forced to enter into a contract when purchasing one for the first time. To contract, in the U.S. iPhone 4 owners will be encouraged (though not forced) to sign a contract with AT&T to access the phone’s major features (like making calls—the major function of having a phone to begin with).

You can always jailbreak your phone to gain unfettered wi-fi internet access not tied to AT&T, but unless you are Canadian the option of signing a contract with any GSM carrier is unavailable. In fact, the only way to have an unlocked phone in the U.S. is to jailbreak your phone, and risk bricking the iPhone 4 itself by going into the files and manually removing the AT&T locks on the headset. Until a carrier is authorized to provide service in the U.S. (other than AT&T of course) this is a futile effort it seems. That is right, you may share your iPhone’s plan, something that you have not do, with the WiFi only iPad for just $20 more every month that is in line with the AT&T’s tethering plan by US carrier that does not give the means to tether iPhone to iPad.

It is not clear in case, Apple has updated the Bluetooth protocols to allow Bluetooth DUN on iPad to tap in iPhone 4′s Bluetooth sharing, and California is now working with progressive carriers to bring WiFi tethering.
